Several busy gay clubs cluster near the State House in Raleigh.
Legends (330 W. Hargett) is the most popular big dance club and show bar in the Triangle for a young, handsome, and mostly male crowd. The club has two sides, Legends which opens Thursdays through Tuesdays from 9pm and View open nightly from 5pm. Both are 18-plus but they sometimes limit under-21 numbers. They have
the finest of the area's drag stars with Tuesday and weekend shows, and top DJ's. On Monday there's Industrial and Gothic music, Wednesdays are for games, Thursdays are 80's music nights, and Friday and Saturdays feature dancing and shows.
Just down the street is Flex (2 S. West), "the men's bar of the Carolinas." They pack in the men on Saturday nights, for Sunday T-dances, and for Carolina Bear Lodge events. Flex also has underwear parties, homo depot parties, and leather events.
Another Raleigh old favorite of 31 years, Capitol Corral (313 W. Hargett) has Thursday night Hip Hop and House music, Friday Latin nights, and big Saturday nights of dancing and drag cabaret.
A new dance club in Raleigh Icon (300 E. Durham Rd) has an 18-plus crowd (except Fridays when they're 21-plus), stripper and drag shows and some women's nights. An even newer dance club, with planned opening for summer 2009, is Chemistry (330 West Davie St).
The Borough (317 W. Morgan St) bar and restaurant pulls in a hip cross section of locals for a hearty variety of food offerings and popular happy hour drinks. They have internet access too.
White Rabbit Books (309 W. Martin) is a North Carolina institution, with books, magazines, music, videos, and condoms. Our Place (327 W. Hargett), has videos, booths, and magazines.
North Carolina Pride 2009 takes place Saturday, September 26, 10am - 4pm at Duke East Campus, Durham, NC. For more information click on the name to link to their website.
